Calder Vets Extramural Studies (EMS) Programme

Calder Vets feels strongly that as a profession, we need to improve the way we support our vet students. The quality of EMS that students achieve should not depend on where they see practice but sadly it does! We have all experienced those places where you get shoved in the corner of a consult room and become the practice tea maker for your entire placement.

Not with Calder!

We want to build bonds with our vet students and make you part of our team. We'd love for you to join us in our practice social events. We hope that you will enjoy working with us so much that you want to join us on our Graduate Deveolpment Programme

We understand that it is really hard to be away from home and working in a new place and we want to make that transition as easy as possible. EMS Programme students will be assigned a 'buddy' – a new or recent graduate that understands the pressures on you – someone who you can contact at any time during your studies to ask for support and advice. You will also be assigned a mentor – someone who is clinically experienced and can guide you through the training programme and help you learn.

We encourage students to use the AVS pre-placement EMS form below, prior to, or at the beginning of your placement to ensure you get the most out of your time seeing practice.
