Here at Calder Vets, we see a large number of itchy dogs struggling with niggly skin conditions. These problems are often much worse in the warm weather.
Here are some of the signs to look out for:
- Recurrent ear infections
- Smelly, waxy or red ears
- Scratching around face/ears or head shaking
- Irritated skin
- Changes in the skin colour (may turn pink or even black)
- Dryness
- Greasy patches or dandruff
- Nibbling or licking feet
- Rubbing bottom on the floor (‘scooting’)
- Scratching more or rubbing body on the floor/furniture
All these can suggest your dog may have an underlying allergy, or other skin irritation.
What can I do to help my dog?
We offer skin clinics at all Calder Vets branches to help identify the cause of your pet’s problems and resolve them as quickly as possible.
During the clinic, the vet will go through your pet’s history to try and identify any triggers and conduct a full examination of both the skin and general health.
We may then take samples or swabs to give us more information and the results of these tests are usually available the same or following day. We can then discuss the likely causes and possible next steps with you.
Please get in touch with your local branch if you’d like to make an appointment.
