It’s said that time flies when you’re having fun and loyal staff at Calder Vets are clearly enjoying themselves after clocking up a staggering 500 years’ service between them.
The 32 team members have all been with the practice for at least 10 years and celebrated reaching the combined landmark earlier this month.
Tracy Hemingway, head of first opinion at Calder, tops the long-service table having been with the vets for more than 35 years, originally joining in 1982 as a trainee nurse.
She said: “Calder has always been a successful team with highly skilled and caring people. My colleagues and I enjoy being part of that.
“Everyone has the support of the directors and other members of team. We all feel our individual contributions are valued and we’re always encouraged to develop our skills and veterinary knowledge.
“I started as a trainee nurse. After I qualified, I progressed to become head nurse, then HR manager, and then practice manager before taking on my present role.
“Of course, I love seeing the animals every day. Calder has always put them first and the standard of care they receive has always been excellent, in line with our mission statement, ‘Caring for your pets as if they were our own’.”
While Tracy leads the way with her 35 years’ gainful employment with Calder, Joy Thorne, a cleaner at the vets’ Horbury surgery, has carried out her role for an impressive 25 years.
Alongside her cleaning duties, Joy dispenses strokes and cuddles to the patients. She said: “It’s always been such a good place to work. They’re all lovely people and I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else.”
