The last thing you want is an emergency vet visit with your beloved pet.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re planning a barbecue this\u202fweekend, here are some\u202fthings to consider\u202fto keep\u202fyour pet safe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Burns<\/strong><br \/>\nYour pet could get burnt by brushing past the barbecue, by a falling hot coal or by eating food directly from the cooking surface. Make sure they can\u2019t access the cooking area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Choking\u202for obstructions<\/strong><br \/>\nDiscarded bones, skewers and corn on the cob can all be of danger to pets\u00a0if swallowed.\u00a0Other items such as tin foil\u00a0may contain tempting cooking juices\u00a0which\u00a0can cause issues if ingested. Ensure rubbish is properly disposed of in a container that pet noses can\u2019t find.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Upset\u00a0tummy<\/strong><br \/>\nAnimal tummies aren\u2019t designed to digest human food therefore\u202fburgers and hot dogs can cause\u202fyour pet\u00a0to\u00a0develop vomiting or diarrhoea. Too much human food also piles on those pounds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alcohol ingestion<\/strong><br \/>\nIf alcoholic beverages are left around, your pet may be tempted to investigate. Alcohol is toxic to cats and\u00a0dogs;\u00a0causing\u00a0vomiting, disorientation, high body temperature, restlessness, excessive panting, muscle tremors and seizures. Keeping drinks out of reach is advised.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Overheating<\/strong><br \/>\nIf you\u2019re having a great time it can be easy to get distracted. Make sure\u202fyour pet has access to fresh water and shade while you\u2019re enjoying yourself.
