{"id":9035,"date":"2020-05-20T17:26:04","date_gmt":"2020-05-20T16:26:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.caldervets.co.uk\/news\/?p=9035"},"modified":"2026-02-18T16:10:42","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T16:10:42","slug":"daniellesunderland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.caldervets.co.uk\/news\/daniellesunderland\/","title":{"rendered":"Danielle Sunderland &#8211; Student Veterinary Nurse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>May is Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month, a whole month dedicated to raising awareness of the veterinary nursing profession and the vital role they play in animal care and treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Danielle Sunderland is our Student Veterinary Nurse (SVN) here at Calder and she kindly took time out to tell us about life as a vet nurse.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>How long have you been a Vet Nurse and what route did you follow to qualify?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am currently a\u00a0Student Veterinary Nurse (SVN) and\u00a0I have been in practice for one year and nine months.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What attracted you to a career as a Veterinary Nurse?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I always wanted to have a career around animals, and it&#8217;s a win-win that I can help them get better too.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the most rewarding thing about being a Vet Nurse?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The most rewarding thing\u00a0about being\u00a0a SVN is to see a patient&#8217;s journey from illness to wellness.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What advice would you give someone thinking about a career as a Vet Nurse?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re thinking about being a\u00a0veterinary nurse, you should go for it\u00a0but first I\u2019d recommend\u00a0arranging some work experience to make sure it\u2019s the right career choice for you.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are the best things about working at Calder? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Calder\u00a0Vets\u00a0is a professional family. I only\u00a0joined,\u00a0and everyone has been so welcoming.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What would be your career highlight so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The highlight of my career so far has been retrieving a cat that had been in an RTA and bringing it to the practice personally. It felt like a real TV drama moment once I got there and assisted in the life-saving care that the cat received.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s the next step in your career pathway?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Right now, my goal is to push forward and become qualified.
