{"id":8749,"date":"2019-04-23T15:41:15","date_gmt":"2019-04-23T14:41:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.caldervets.co.uk\/news\/?p=8749"},"modified":"2020-02-28T10:36:50","modified_gmt":"2020-02-28T10:36:50","slug":"harnessing-pedal-power-for-charity-at-calder-vets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.caldervets.co.uk\/news\/harnessing-pedal-power-for-charity-at-calder-vets\/","title":{"rendered":"Harnessing pedal power for charity at Calder Vets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The wheels have been set in motion for a team of charity cyclists in Yorkshire as they prepare for the third Tour de Calder Vets.<\/p>\n<p>Sporty staff members from Calder Vets have teamed up with colleagues from sister practice Paragon Veterinary Referrals, in Wakefield, to complete a challenging 50 mile bike ride around some of Calder\u2019s branches.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, April 28, the intrepid cyclists will ride between 4.5 and 50 miles on a route passing eight of Calder\u2019s 12 practices in the county \u2013 Dewsbury, Mirfield, Brighouse, Waterloo, Denby Dale, Sandal, Wakefield and Tingley.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the team\u2019s pedal-pushing powers raised more than \u00a3750 which they are hoping to match during this year\u2019s challenge.<\/p>\n<p>All funds raised will be split between <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vetlife.org.uk\/\">Vetlife<\/a> and Cats Protection \u2013 Calder and Paragon\u2019s chosen charities.<\/p>\n<p>Veterinary surgeon Gemma Kilby, the event\u2019s main organiser, said: \u201cOur Tour de Calder Vets has been enjoyed by the team so much previously that we\u2019re doing it for the third year running.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately this year I won\u2019t be cycling due to injury, but I\u2019ll be working with the support team to help those who are taking part.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to be a big challenge. The team is riding between 4.5 and 50 miles depending on their ability, but we\u2019re all primed and ready to go.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone has pulled together to make this happen.
