{"id":6051,"date":"2015-08-17T08:35:35","date_gmt":"2015-08-17T08:35:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.caldervets.co.uk\/?p=6051"},"modified":"2026-04-07T10:34:54","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T09:34:54","slug":"mission-rabies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.caldervets.co.uk\/news\/mission-rabies\/","title":{"rendered":"Mission Rabies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Over 99% of cases of human rabies are caused by an infected dog bite and in India; where more people die of rabies than anywhere else in the world; someone is bitten by a dog every 2 seconds.\u00a0 This deadly disease instils fear into local communities and every year millions of healthy dogs are inhumanely killed out of fear. \u00a0However, this does not halt the spread of rabies and in some situations can actually increase the spread as street dogs move into vacant territories following a cull.\u00a0 Fortunately there is a solution to this devastating problem and the answer is mass canine vaccination and population control through neutering.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.missionrabies.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-6060\" src=\"https:\/\/www.caldervets.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Rabies-3-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Mission Rabies\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.missionrabies.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mission Rabies<\/a> is a project of the charity Worldwide Veterinary Services.\u00a0 It was started in India in 2013 with the aim to vaccinate 2 million dogs over 3 years in the key rabies affected areas.
