Fantastic small animal opportunities in West Yorkshire

Calder Vets is a nine site purely small animal practice spread across the Calder Valley just south of Leeds. We aim to provide the very best first opinion services across all of our branches. With 28 vets, 20 QVNs and over 60 other staff we represent a significant presence in the area. Most of our branches have their own operating and diagnostic facilities, allowing them to function as stand-alone units. Backup from the main hospital is available 24/7.

Our mission is to provide both the highest levels of care to our patients and unbeatable levels of customer service to our clients. We also feel that investment in our staff improves the standard of care that they provide and builds lasting commitments improving the practice as a whole.

Our tier 3 multi disciplinary referral hospital offers services in advanced imaging, surgery, medicine, cardiology, ophthalmology, rehabilitation and dermatology. The hospital is equipped with some of the best facilities in Yorkshire. We accept referral work from over 150 practices surrounding the group as well as referrals generated from within the practice.

Training Position for a New Graduate Veterinary Surgeon

Fixed 1 year contract

We have run a programme for new graduates over the last few years aimed at training and tutoring new graduate vets in to confident first opinion practitioners working to the highest standards during their first year in practice.

Opportunities may exist within the group after the first year for the right candidates to take up full time employment. Two of our vets have entered the practice through this scheme and continue to work for us as full time veterinary surgeons.

During the first 6 months the candidate would be tutored and assisted with the fundamentals of practice assuming occasional responsibilities but primarily observing and learning the mechanics of first opinion practice. The second 6 months of employment would see the candidate engaging with more duties until at the end of the year he/she would be able to cope competently as a first opinion veterinary surgeon in a busy practice working to a high standard of care.

A four day week is standard for this position. No formal out of hours commitments are attached to this role. Weekend work is expected and is shared out equally amongst the practice, however this would be very limited during the first 6 months of employment. Up to 5 weeks holiday can be taken during the year and CPD allowances are offered.

Interested applicants should send a C.V. to Stuart Cooke by email at stuart.cooke@caldervets.co.uk or by phone on 01924 465592
