Arranging your Referral

Welcome to Calder Vets. We aim to make you visit to us as stress free and productive as possible.

The following points are intended as a guide to let you know what you can expect from our practice and should help to answer any questions or queries you may have. If you need more help or advice do not hesitate to contact the surgery directly on 01924 465592 (or 01924 492155 for ophthalmology referrals).

We will need a letter of referral from your vet before your appointment. If your vet has taken x-rays etc. please bring these with you to your appointment.

It may be preferable in some cases to withhold some medication prior to referral, however, please do not stop any medicines (in any form, oral or topical) until you have talked with your vet.

In most cases you will need to collect a letter of referral along with any relevant x-rays and test results from your vet. These must be brought along at the time of consultation.

It is essential that the person who is most familiar with your pet's condition attends the consultation.

Unless told otherwise, please do not feed your pet after 8pm the night before your consultation but make sure water is always available. If your pet is diabetic please check with your vet about feeding instructions.

If at all possible please allow your pet time to go to the toilet before his or her arrival at the hospital.

Although some tests can be carried out whilst you are waiting it is quite likely that your pet may be admitted to the hospital for further tests. This will be discussed with you.

If your pet stays overnight be reassured that Calder Vets operate a full night time service. We have two nurses and a veterinary surgeon working throughout the night so your pet will never be left unattended and critical patients are constantly monitored.

Costs of investigation and treatment vary depending on individual cases. The veterinary surgeon will be happy to discuss this with you at any time during treatment.

Fees are payable at the time of treatment for day cases or on the day of discharge for hospitalised patients. We do not extend credit under any circumstances. However, if your pet is insured we may be able to arrange a direct claim from your insurance company. Direct claims need to be arranged prior to your appointment. Please phone for more details and visit the insurance claims terms and conditions element of the website.

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible.
